Father's Day Car Camping

For father's day weekend, we decided to head to the mountains and do some car camping.  We chose to do Cooper Lake.  I had been there for some hikes but have never tried the campground.  It could not have been more perfect.   The lake is exactly what you would want in alpine lake with mountain views and pristine water.

Oscar had such a great time.  Not only did he get to explore everything, he saw some pretty cool stuff.  He saw a bald eagle swoop down and grab a fish from the lake. (only a 100 feet away!)  We got so see some fishermen do some fishing.  They even gave us a couple of fish which we cooked up that night.  We drove a fair distance the next for a day hike up Red Top Mountain.  Its only a 1/2 mile to the top and views are amazing! Oscar was not so impressed with the views as much as the solar panel they had installed there.  And he thought the rocks were really cool too.

While I could have chosen to spend some time alone on Father's day, I really think spending it with my family was the best thing. We are slowly getting our camping rhythm going and its getting more and more fun to head out of the city and rough it a little bit.  As father, I really want to instill in Oscar a sense that the outdoors are place where you can explore and have fun!
